Certain things that may have a Thyroid interaction.
Seafood contains Iodine.
Cruciferous vegetables, like Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussells Sprouts, etc, contain Goitrogens known to potentially interact with the Thyroid.
If you consider you may have a problem with such foods, then either limit or remove them from your diet, with consulation from a qualified individual.
As your Thyroid also regulates Calcitonin, a Calcium and Phosphorus regulating Hormone, you may have issues regards Calcium into the Bone Matrix and Bloodstream, plus Phosphorus into Bones and possibly Phosphorus utilisation to make ATP, the muscle moving energy source in your Mitochondria, as I believe Phosphorus plays a part in ATP production.
So depending on what a qualified person says, you might have to increase Calcium intake, which would include things like Soybeans, Dairy, Nuts, Leafy Greens and Eggs. Phosphorus is much the same sources, but you can include Fish, Meat and Cereal in there.
However if you get too much Calcium into your Bloodstream it could I believe increase the risk of Calcification or some kind of arterial stiffening, which is not good, so you'd need to reduce Calcium intake.
Any changes would be wise though to be considered with some sort of proffessional just incase.

Post subject: hyperthyroidism and psoraisis
Hi, I was diagnosed with hyperthroid and I also have severe psoraisis on top of being a diabetic. They put me on Methazole and it causes me to itch which with psoraisis you don't need to itch anymore. So I'm weaning myself off of it. I've read through studies that one who has psoraisis is not likely to develope Hyperthyroid. Anyway I'm not one for pills and I done every thing the Dr. asked and my psdoraisis got worst and their pill
Tricor causes awlful pain in the shoulders. I would love to know what I could do naturally to improve my health. It's like what's good for one thing is bad for the other. I really could use some advice on what I should eat. Thanks pam

I'm not someone with a Thyroid problem, but you needn't worry about cutting out things like Dairy, because there's plenty of things like Oils, Seeds, Nuts, Avocado, Soy products, (Tofu, Tempeh, Soybeans, Edemame, Nattokinase), Peanuts, Flax, Omega Eggs, Low Fat Cheese and Fish, that contain healthy Fats and the calories in healthy Fats are 9 per gram, same as the others, but Unsaturates don't contain Nitrogen, which can convert to Uric Acid, and elevate Gout risk, as can the Nitrogen in Proteins.
So you should be fine add alternative Fat sources in. I would probably opt for Low Fat Cheese, Soy and Flax out of those, because compared to dairy, they have a prettyy decent amount of all three Macros too.
Though all choices should be able to be incoporated without much problem.
Incidentally, have you ever had to limit your intake of Cruciferous Vegetables, like Cauliflour and Broccoli as examples. I ask as C V's contain Goitrogens, that can interact with the Thyorid. Just curious, you don't have to answer that if you don't wish to.
Whatever happens though, good luck and best wishes to you. I can appreciate your situation must be a difficult one and I hope that you can continue to keep making the best of things.

Post subject: hyperthyroidism
Hi, Kerry,
I,too, tried to get in touch with you and also tried that web page you had listed, both to no avail. Hopefully you are still doing well.
I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism approximatley 7 years ago, and was prety much asymptomatic until last year when I started losing lots of weight. The thought of RAI really concerns me because I know there's a possibility of overloading the body with iodine, and also the possibilty of thyroid storm. But eating around the clock just to get in at least 1700 to 2000 calories a day is really wearing me out. I'm afraid that if I cut out dairy (like icecream and cheese) that I won't have enough calories to maintain even a low weight.. Anyone have similar experiences? And were you able to resolve it?

Hi everyone.
Just want to say thanks for everyone and their helpfull tips.
Hyperthyroidism is a very serious disese and you should not trust everything you read untill you check it out. I notice a lot of people seem to think this "Kerry" has all the answers. Has anyone ever asked her if she has cured or got her disese under control.
Just keep an open mind before trusting a unqualified person with your life.

Post subject: healing when broke
Hi Hairless heartracer,
Just wanted to check in with you and see how you are doing. May I make a few suggestions that will be supportive of you?
Take yourself out for walks (with or without off-spring) in the fresh air. Take deep breaths, picture clean air going in with your in-breath, dirty air moving out (blow out like you are blowing out a candle). See this moving through your whole body, down to your toes. This will get your blood moving and circulating, which not only changes your mood but also helps to oxygenate your body and support it (movement is great for stress too!). Gentle exercise outside is always a good first step in self care.
Endeavour to change your diet, by incorporating more fresh, raw foods, especially greens (kale, lettuce, chard, parsley, cilantro, green onions, dandelion greens, chickweed, lambcress (these last three are weeds in most gardens), etc...) I fyou have a blender, put a bunch of greens in your blender with a banana and enough water to cover, then puree the lot. Very nutritious and you can share it with your little one. Try to cut out any stimulating substances: caffeine, alcohol, wheat products, sugar (minimize it as much as possible, tricky in our society).
When in a good space, take a moment to identify the stressors in your life and consider ways of taking the pressure off. If you have family, or friends, ask for help. Sometimes a reframe is all that is needed.
If you have access to a library, then you have access to many helpful materials. There is a wonderful book entitled: The Biology of Belief, by Bruce Lipton... I found it to be very helpful.
If you have any money to put towards your healing, I highly recommend finding yourself a trained specialist who can make a difference in your recovery. My suggestions (because this is what I know and have received benefit from) would be a Classically trained Homeopath or Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DTCM). If you haven't got the money but want the treatment, contact the practitioner and make a request for help, explaining the situation. It never hurts to ask. You may be able to work out a trade. You won;t know unless you put it out there.
Anyway, these are just suggestions, ideas. I am not a doctor, I just know what has worked for me, and what has worked for the people I have talked to who have healed themselves. The key aspects seem to be: dealing with Stress in a constructive way, diet changes, gentle exercise, getting enough rest, fresh air, essentially taking care of and being good to ourselves. Not a bad paradigm shift over-all, one that will continue to benefit us for a long time.
I acknowledge you for wanting to keep yourself and your child safe from radiation, and for wanting to find solutions that work within your limitations. I believe there are other ways. I wish you good health, and clarity in finding the path to healing that works best for you and your family. The first step is to start asking questions. The answers always follow.
Kind regards,
Titania

Post subject: homepathy for hypothyroidism
hi everyone!
i'm new to this forum but i was just reading this thread and thought that perhaps some of you may be interested in reading about my experience with homeopathy, and how it cured my severe thyroid problems.
i've wanted to spread the word to other people who are suffering from hypo/hyper-thyroidism but haven't quite know how to. maybe this is place to start.
here is a link to an article i wrote about my experience, if you're interested:

Post subject: money
You say you took all these suppliments and did all these relaxing things...it sounds like you have no kids, don't go to school and have enough money to buy all these suppliments. Don't get me wrong I am happy for you and really kind of jelous that you have cured your hyperthyoidism but is there any suggestions for those who don't have any money at all to buy 10 or more suppliments or money to buy relaxing music and time to take relaxing baths? I flat out refuse to give myself cancer later in life by drinking radioactive liquid and not be able to touch my son as I am radioactive and I certainly hate being hairless and stuck to a bottle of pills that are really honestly eating away at my insides after taking them for more than a year. I am at the end of my rope here. I need an inexpensive suggestion if anyone has one to offer it would be sincerley appreciated. I don't mean to come off rude I am just depressed with seemingly no way out. Please help.

Post subject: Hyperthyroid? Research this...
Hi, everyone. I felt I had to post on here and let you know that being diagnosed with hyperthyroid does not mean to jump to any conclusions. The worry and fear that came with your diagnosis only makes the condition worse. The best thing to incorporate into your life immediately is relaxation. And make that a life long habit.
Also, if you have any suspicion of having felt the symptoms at some other point in your past, research this term: Silent Thyroiditis. This is a condition whereby your thyroid becomes hyperactive for several months (or longer) followed by a period of it becoming hypo-active for a while also. Soon after that pattern, it will become euthyroid (medical term for normal).
So while the diet and lifestyle changes may bring forth a dramatic change, research the possibility that your hyperthyroid symptoms could return. And while researching you may also learn that one of the greatest contributors to hyperthyroid development is stress, either chronic or acute.
Therefore, as I just said earlier... find your favorite method of relaxation, add new ones, and incorporate this as a daily routine! Imperative. In our cases, "Me Time" is no selfish thing... it's a matter of life or death.
I suffer from Silent Thyroiditis, and without fail, when I forget to take care of myself for a long period of time, including not eating well, coupled with highly stressful situations in my life, I develop a goiter and immediately begin experiencing the familiar symptoms. But the hope is realizing it's under your control. You CAN make it go away and keep it at bay.

Post subject: natural hyperthyroid remedies
Hi,
I am new to all this hyperthyroid stuff as of July this year (2009)... I am seeing a Doctor of Traditional Chinese medecine, and it has been very helpful, both the acupuncture and the Chinese herbs. In additional to that (with my DTCM's permission) I am taking bugleweed and motherwort tincture (available from Gaia Gardens in Vancouver).
Another great resource for thyroid information is Dr. Ryan Drumm:
http://www.ryandrum.com/
He has articles on his site that helped me understand and find a better place with this condition. There is great info about the hypothyroid condition as well.
Although I am still in the early stages of my healing, I am feeling very good, much better than when I started. My heart rate is down (to 80/min from 100), I can breathe when I am training at TaeKwonDo, and although my hands still shake, it's nowhere near as bad as it was.
In addition to the treatments I am following, I have also cleaned up my diet: no alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, minimizing sugar and avoiding flour-foods, essentially anything stimulating (I discovered rosehip tea is stimulating recently!). I'm also adding a bit of kelp to my diet, ground flax and hemp seeds and eating foods that I make from scratch at home, so I know what I am eating. At this point I am considering adding Lemonbalm tincture to my healing regimen.
Hopefully this helps. As we can learn from Kerry and others, there are people who have made it through, and have healed themselves naturally. Our bodies know what to do, if we just support them the right way.
Sometimes it takes some real choices to make real changes.
Radiant Health to us all!
